FAQ

What is DocChat?

DocChat is a healthcare service that connects patients to physicians through live audio-video consultations from the convenience of a patient’s smartphone, tablet or computer.

How does it work?

To access a physician, simply download our free app (available on either iOS or android devices), create an account, and in 10 minutes or less you can have a live, on-demand video visit with a physician. Our physicians can evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medication for many medical conditions seen every day in primary care offices, urgent care centers, and hospital emergency rooms. Please note, however, prescriptions are not always provided and will only be provided when medically necessary.*

Who is DocChat?

DocChat is a network of emergency experienced physicians, who understand how to accurately and effectively treat patients in all stages of duress.

Why DocChat?

Our doctors are available 24/7/365, so you can save time off from work for more pleasurable pursuits. Access safe, quality care, after hours, over weekends or during the holidays, when your only other alternative may be an urgent care clinic or hospital emergency room.

In which U.S. States I can use DocChat?

DocChat is currently available in the following states:
Arizona, Connecticut, Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington.
We are expanding our reach regularly.

How much does it cost to use DocChat?

DocChat consults are $50 per call. You can also purchase a DocChat subscription which gives you unlimited calls to a physician for a 6 month or 12 month period. See more here.

Are my payments safe?

We use Stripe, one of the leading mobile payment services, to process your payment, so we never see your information. Stripe is PCI Certified level 1 which is the most stringent certification. For more info, click here.

What payment methods are accepted?

For your security and in the interest of expedience, we only accept credit cards. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express cards.

Can I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription within the first 30 days and will only be charged for that month. However, our subscriptions are 6 month and 12 month commitments, so after your first 30 days, we will bill you each month for the remainder of your 6 or 12 month period.

What are the system requirements for DocChat consultations?

For optimal performance, connect your mobile device to a strong wifi connection. If your network connection is too weak, DocChat may automatically turn lower the video quality of the consultation or turn off video. Audio would remain functional. We’ll automatically perform a test of your key connectivity functions before placing your call to a doctor so you know what to expect.
If using desktop or laptop: We highly recommend using Google Chrome on PCs and Safari on Macs for optimal performance. DocChat will work on Firefox, Internet Explorer 10+, and Chromium. We haven’t been able to test DocChat on Microsoft Edge (replacement for Internet Explorer) so we welcome your early feedback. Email info@docchat.io to share your experience.
If using iPhone or iPad: You must have at least iPhone 4s or later and your operating system must be iOS 7.0 or later. We recommend upgrading your operating system to the latest version.
If using Android phones, Android tablets, Amazon Kindle Fire Phones or Amazon Kindle Fire tablets: Requires Android 4.0.3 or later. We recommend using the latest version of Android.

What makes DocChat different than other telemedicine companies?

We pride ourselves on doing what’s right for the patient.

  1. Guarantee you’ll see a doctor in 10 minutes or less (average response time is 2 minutes).

  3. Are available 24/7.
  4. Will never charge you extra for taking too much time.
  5. Will call you to check on your recovery 2-3 days after your consult.
  6. Utilize doctors with emergency experience who can perform better triage.
  7. Offer language translation so you can communicate in your preferred language and the doctor will see your words in English.
  8. Take your suggestions and feedback very seriously. DocChat is made for you. We want you to love it and share it with the world.
  9. Make our most senior employees available to you. You can reach our CEO, Michael Okhravi, at mike [@] docchat.io.

What happens if I don’t connect to a doctor in 10 minutes?

Your consult is free. We know you need to see a doctor right away and your time is valuable. The 10 minute guarantee begins once you see the countdown clock. This indicates that your request has been broadcast to the doctors in our network.

Can I contact my doctor after my consultation?

Yes! You may contact your doctor anytime by instant messaging or calling within 7 days following your consultation. Open your DocChat app or log into the website and view your consultation history. Choose the consultation that corresponds to your question and select “chat” or simply call the phone number provided. If your doctor hasn’t responded to you in 3 hours, please call us immediately at 844-DOCCHAT.

Where is my DocChat doctor from?

Our network of doctors is located all over the country. However, your doctor will be licensed in your state to practice medicine.

Does DocChat offer language translation for those who don’t speak English as a first language?

Yes! When using the DocChat website or mobile apps, go to your profile settings and choose your default consultation language. This will allow you to type messages to the doctor in your preferred language and the doctor will see the messages in English. When the doctor responds, his messages will display in your language.

What happens if I am having technical difficulty?

Please call 844-362-2428 and we will happily assist you right away.

What do I do if I have a poor connection?

DocChat works best when connected to a strong wifi connection, but if you are in an area with poor service, you may elect to turn off your video feed and conduct the consultation by audio only. If your audio connection is choppy, you may elect to turn this off as well and conduct the consultation strictly through our built-in instant messaging feature. If you aren’t sure if your connection is strong or weak, don’t worry. DocChat will automatically adjust the video quality and media settings to get the best results. It may even turn off your video all together if necessary. Our goal is to ensure you communicate with your doctor seamlessly, so we prioritize audio over video in the event of a poor connection.

What happens if I am not satisfied with my consultation?

Your satisfaction means a lot to us. Please contact us via email info@docchat.io or call us at 844-362-2428 and we will investigate your concern. You can email our CEO, Michael Okhravi, at mike [@] docchat.io.

Do you work with insurance companies?

At this time we do not work with insurance companies though we are actively building this feature into DocChat. You may select to submit your DocChat bill to your insurance company for reimbursement and you may be reimbursed depending on your policy.

How does DocChat keep my health information secure? Is it HIPAA compliant?

DocChat complies with HIPAA privacy laws and uses AES – 256bit encryption for transferring and storing data and SHA2 encryption for any transactions (effectively double encryption). These are virtually unbreakable, so you can feel comfortable sharing your private health concerns with your DocChat doctor.
There isn’t any information that is stored in opened and easy-readable format. We use HIPAA compliant web servers that store your information in an encrypted format with a strong encryption key. But your information isn’t just encrypted when stored. It’s sent through an encrypted channel that uses SSL SHA-2 encryption for any transferred data, processed on our servers, then the operating system of the server is encrypted AND Google Cloud Platform, our host provider, provides an additional layer of encryption. That may have made your head spin, but it’s sufficient to say that we do everything we can to protect your information!

Can I select my own doctor?

A DocChat doctor chooses to accept each call, so the doctor who answers your call is random. However, if you see a doctor you like, you can request to see them again through the app. Please note that when selecting a doctor you’ve previously seen, our 10 minute guarantee does not apply because that particular doctor may be preoccupied. However, we guarantee you’ll see the doctor within 60 minutes as long as they are online.

Although DocChat is not a service that can be used in extreme medical emergencies, the American Medical Association has deemed our services an appropriate alternative for treating 75% of illnesses typically seen in primary care office settings.
