Neck pain is something almost everyone will experience at some point in their life. If you are having neck pain, it may have something to do with how you sit, stand, or walk. This pain can be chronic and a great number of people suffer from this without being able to find any cure to it. Here are some common sense suggestions to alleviate the pain and help you to feel better.

No matter how cool you think it looks, you should never slouch when you are sitting in a chair. You always sit straight up in your chair, and have your feet flat on the floor. Use a chair that has support for your back, and make sure your shoulders are back, and in a relaxed position.

Make sure to you take a series of breaks throughout the day if you work in an office. Stretch your neck muscles during these breaks.

If you do the majority of your work at a computer during the day, you are at a risk of developing neck pain. You must take special care not to develop neck and back problems. Ensure that your monitor is at eye level so you do not have to stoop down to see it. If your job involves lots of talking on the telephone, try and use a speaker phone. If that is not possible, get a headset.

Watch Your Driving!

Don’t try and look cool while driving either. Adjust your car seat to an upright position where you have support for your back, and for your head. You should never have to reach out for the steering wheel while you are driving. Your arms should always be flexed slightly, and in a comfortable position.

Sleep Habits Are Key To Avoiding Neck Pain

If you do not have a pillow that keeps your neck straight while you sleep, you are asking for neck pain. If this is a concern for you, there are special neck support pillows, called cervical pillows, that can give you the support you need while sleeping and alleviate neck pain if you are already experiencing it.

Never sleep on your stomach where your neck is in a bent or twisted position. If you are a person who loves to read a good book while in bed, make sure you prop up the book so that you are not holding it up with your arms, and bending your neck in order to read.

Neck pain is a problem for millions of Americans, so use these tips to keep yourself free from pain, and live a better life. Remember that prevention is better than cure!
